UMBILICAL CORD LINING STEM CELLS
Umbilical cord lining is the richest source of both mesenchymal and epithelial stem cells in the human body.
CRT’s stem cells are derived from donated umbilical cords after normal, healthy full-term births. CRT’s stem cell platform has been additionally optimised to produce high quantities of the exosomal proteins that power the biopharmaceutical potential of stem cells.

Corlicyte®
Corlicyte® is a cryopreserved formulation of human mesenchymal stem cells for therapeutic use. Corlicyte® is in initial development for chronic wounds, particularly diabetic foot ulcer, burns and cartilage repair.
Mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) are stromal cells (i.e., associated with tissue and organ rather than blood) and have the ability to differentiate into a number of different tissue types. As stem cells they have significant potential to elicit a response via paracrine signalling, exosome production and systemic effects such as stimulating new blood vessel formation.
The mesenchymal stem cells within Corlicyte® have been optimised to produce high levels of growth factors and cytokines with wound healing and anti-inflammatory properties. These proteins have important roles in the inflammatory, proliferative, and remodeling phases of wound healing, particularly in chronic wounds where the normal biological processes may have become stagnant.
To date Corlicyte® has been tested in a Phase I study at the University of Colorado Anschutz Medical School. In the study 9 patients with a chronic diabetic foot ulcer (duration >2 months at start of treatment) had twice weekly application of Corlicyte® for a period of 8 weeks. The primary endpoint for this study was safety.
The results of this study showed zero treatment associated adverse events observed in any of the patients receiving treatment with Corlicyte®.
In addition, all patients had a reduction in wound size and 2 out of 9 patients treated saw a complete closure of the wound during the treatment period.
Beyond diabetic foot ulcer further studies are planned in adjacent chronic wound conditions such as chronic limb-threatening ischaemia and burns, following early success in case studies.
Corlicyte® is also being tested in pre-clinical models for cartilage repair, where it is planned for administration into the intra-articular space of the knee joint, to ameliorate the symptoms of injured tissue from a range of aetiologies.

Corlisome®
Corlisome® Corlisome® is a conditioned media derived from human umbilical cord lining mesenchymal stem cells. It contains a rich mixture of growth factors, cytokines and exosomal proteins with powerful anti-inflammatory and therapeutic potential.
Corlisome® is in development for the treatment of hair loss, initially androgenic alopecia. Corlisome® is planned as an in-clinic treatment that will be administered by a healthcare professional.
Dermal papilla cells are specialised mesenchymal cells that exist in the dermal papilla, which is located at the bottom of hair follicles. These cells play crucial roles in hair growth, formation and cycling, predominantly by secreting growth factors and molecules responsible for constructing the extracellular matrix. Over time, and due to factors such as hormones, medications or environmental conditions the number of dermal papilla cells can reduce, resulting in miniaturisation of hair follicles, which manifests as a visual appearance of hair loss.
The growth factors within Corlisome® have multiples potential actions within the hair growth cycle to delay the process of miniaturisation associated with androgenic alopecia.
Prolonging the growth phase (anagen) of hair Reducing the hair loss (exogen) Provision of depleted growth factors and cytokines involved in the function of the dermal papilla Counteracting chronic inflammation linked to the process of miniaturisation Corlisome builds on extensive data generated by Cell Research Consumer Health who have a cosmetic formulation of enriched supernatant derived from a mammalian source for hair loss with promising results. It is anticipated that a human-sourced, biopharmaceutical grade of product with potential for injection into the scalp will yield highly promising results and offer a new therapeutic option for this common condition.
